New from the Lower School 9/03/2010

Dear Parents:

Our second week of school has been as wonderful as the first week of school.  I am amazed how well everyone has adapted back to the "routine" of school.  As I have said many times, a smooth start to the school year can be attributed to the partnership between school and home.  We appreciate all you do to have your children well prepared for the school day.

Next Wednesday, September 8th our entire campus will have their individual school pictures taken.  All students must wear their school uniform for pictures like a regular school day.  Typically, our lower school students have their pictures made early in the school day before lunch and recess time.

Thank you for your support in using the carline for morning drop-off instead of parking and walking students into the lower school.  Pedestrian traffic through the carline impedes the flow of the carline.  Also, please refrain from using your cell phone in carline.  This is for the safety of students and faculty.  As always, I appreciate your assistance in following the Lower School's policy and procedures.

This school year Montverde Academy has moved to from six grading periods per school year to four grading periods per school year.  The benefits of this change will be that with more time in a grading period students will have more assignments, tests, quizzes, etc. to have their grades based upon.   This decision was made in response to faculty feeling that this change will be more effective in evaluating student progress.

Dear Parents and Students:

The first week of school year for the 2010-2011 school year went as smoothly as one would like it to go. A thank you needs to go to the students, the faculty and staff, and the parents for making this week such a positive start to what we believe is going to be a great school year at the Middle School. Our students came back school with excellent attitudes and a willingness to be engaged in the educational process; the faculty and staff were well prepared for the arrival of their students; and the parents had their children on time, prepared, and ready to work. The major components of an academic community: students, staff, and parents all did their part to make August 23-27 memorable.

The beginning of the school year started out exactly the way an academic institution would like. Returning students came back remembering and following school policies and procedures as if they had only been gone for a week. New students to the Academy were treated with respect by our returning students treating them in a very caring way. The student body seemed to be united in a very positive way from the very first few days of school. The overall feeling at the Middle School was that it felt as if we had been in session for a full month and in reality it was only the first week. Kudos to all involved!

Some of the comments that I heard from our Middle School students were: “What a nice first week of school.” “I like going to school here.” “The cafeteria at my other school was not like this one.” “I like my classes.” Some comments that I heard from our Middle School faculty: “What a great group of students.” “I love my classes.” “The students  seem so polite.” Some comments that I heard from parents who have children at the Middle School: “What a beautiful school you have here.” “My child has come home every day bragging about how much they like it here.” “You people are very organized here, I love it.” These kind of comments by students, faculty, and parents make the time, energy, and effort that go into putting together what we do, all worth it.

Dates to remember:

Wednesday, September 1           Student Government Association speeches for M.S. class offices

Wednesday, September 8           SGA speeches for M.S. 6th, 7th, and 8th grade representatives

Wednesday, September 15         Middle School Social at the Pool starting at 3:30 p.m.

Thursday September 16              Noon dismissal  / MVA Professional Development afternoon

Sincerely,

Warren Delmolino
