MVA Track and Field Wins First Meet |

The afternoon was cold, but the Eagle Track and Field team
won the day! Both the boys and girls teams showed they were determined
to be successful in the first meet of the season. The opponents were
First Academy of Leesburg and Orlando Christian Prep. The Lady Eagles
scored 59 points to FAL's 40 and OCP's 25. The boys scored 61 points
to FAL's 43 and OCP's 30.
Field Events
- Montverde went 1-2-3-4 in the girls discus: senior Janessa Silvestri in first with a throw of 67'0"; senior Tolu Akinpetide in second, 60'10"; senior Georgia Ptohopoulos in third, 55'2"; and freshman Nina Lu in fourth, 55'0". In the boys discus, senior captain Chris Bow and junior Andrew Matella both threw 86'4" to tie for first, and senior Tyler Hallal threw 70'3" to take fourth place.
- In the shot put, Montverde went 1-2-3: sophomore Teddy Dewitt in first with a throw of 36'2.5"; Chris Bow in second with a throw of 36'0"; and junior Andrew Matella in third with 29'8.5". Senior Tolu Akinpetide took first in the girls shot with a throw of 24'0.5".
- In the high jump, senior Nick Blackwell took first place for the boys with a jump of 5'0", and Tolu Akinpetide won first for the girls, clearing 4'2".
- In the long jump, junior Keishin Onodera won first in the boys with a jump of 17'1.5", and eighth grader Wendi Williams took third with a jump of 11'10".
Sprints
Distance Running
- The girls went 1-2-3 in the 800-meter run: freshman Allison Keeler led with a time of 2:56, followed by Shaula Rey in second at 2:58 and Romina Titanti in third at 3:08. Senior David Cruz
won the boys 800m with a time of 2:26.
- In the girls 1600-meter run, seventh grader Ciara Hopkins took first, running 5:43, with senior Gorana Lazic in second at 7:00. For the boys, junior Keishin Onodera won first with a time of 5:21, and senior Christian Mantilla took fourth at 6:04.
- In the 3200-meter run, Keishin Onodera won first place at 12:29 for the boys. For the girls, Ciara Hopkins took first place, running 13:05, and Allison Keeler took second at 15:38.
Returning
athletes this season include Ciara Hopkins, Dyneal Fessal, Chris Bow,
Alli Keeler, Tolu Akinpetide, Janessa Silvestri, Teddy DeWitt, Nick
Blackwell, Tyler Hallal, Christian Mantilla, David Cruz, Alex Synovec,
Tyler Dixon, Andrew Matella, Wendi Williams, and Brionne Cruz. New to
the team are Kelli Keeler, Megan Monteleone, Kaya Gaudet, Gorana Lazic,
Bobby Crago, Georgia Ptohopoulos, Shaula Rey, Katie Stanley, Romina
Titanti, Jennifer Kabore, Lorenzo Molina, Keishin Onodera, Aaron
Sossani, and Daniel Urreta.
We look forward to a successful season. Our next meet will take place Saturday, February 27, at The First Academy of Orlando. The TFA Royal Open will be an all-day event featuring 18-20 very competitive teams from around the area.
