Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament (MAIT)

The 7th annual Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament ("MAIT") was an extraordinary event this year! Our Eagles most definitely "Rocked The House", winning the MAIT Championship for the 1st time in 3 years. This year's team defeated two (2) nationally ranked schools last Friday and Saturday. Since the MAIT event, Montverde Academy Eagles have climbed into the Top 10 rankings for many national polls.

On Friday night, Montverde's basketball wizards overpowered Rockville, Maryland's Montrose Christian (ranked #12 nationally) 59-57. Montrose was the same team Montverde defeated 3 years ago for the MAIT championship during their 30-0 season.

Saturday night, Eagle coaches and players defeated Henderson, Nevada's Findlay Prep (ranked #2 nationally, and last year's MAIT Champs) 54-51 in a exciting final. Kaleb Clyburn was designated MVP, and James Bell and Jamail Jones made the all-tournament team. The atmosphere was amazing. An elated Coach Sutton told the Orlando Sentinel, "It's a huge win. Findlay is very well-coached. I'm just real pleased with our community and how everybody came out." (source: Rivals.com)

For Spirit Week, Montverde Academy students, teachers, faculty and parents showed their eagle pride, wearing everything purple & gold! The Parents' Association would like to thank former and current PA Presidents Lori Smith, Cindy Crosbie and Tiffany Tatsch for spending their Sunday afternoon stuffing spirit bags, in order for the Lower and Middle School kids to have their spirit items in time for Spirit Week.

Once again, Lisa Spangler (MVA 6th grade teacher) and Debbie Strickland (MVA Staff) were our MAIT concession stand co-chairs. For several years now, they both have done an excellent job managing the food & beverages for everyone who attends MAIT, and have enjoyed great support from other teachers, staff, and parents to help make the stand run smoothly. This year, they worked very hard and successfully fed a variety of fast food fun (chicken sandwiches, hot dogs, pizza slices, chili bowls, and nachos) to hundreds of hungry MAIT attendees. Great job, ladies!

A special thanks to Brenda Boggs, Anna Bird, Yvonne Brown, Traci Overdevest, Heather Johnson, Barbara Metello, Gloria Weibe, and several other helpful moms & dads for rolling up their sleeves and helping the MVA faculty with the concession stand. It was very busy at times, but every minute was filled with fun!

There was a scrumptious assortment of homemade goodies, baked up with love by our MVA family. There were enough desserts for sale at the concession stand for all three "MAIT" days! Thank you, moms and grandmoms!

We are so proud of our Eagles! Congratulations Coach Sutton and the "Suttonators"!
