15 January 2010
Good morning parents and students!
The first two weeks of the second semester will be over at the conclusion of school today. The fourth grading of the 2009-2010 school year has brought some changes to the Middle School division. Ms. Ana Cristina Ojeda has taken a medical leave of absence from the Academy, which started at the beginning of this semester. Mrs. Claudia Amaya has been hired by the Academy to teach Spanish 6, Spanish 7, Spanish 8, and Spanish I to our Middle School students. She has done an excellent job so far replacing Ms. Ojeda. Mr. Michael Potempa has been hired by the Academy to teach Writing 7, Writing 8, and English 8 to our 7th and 8th graders. He has also done an excellent job so far replacing Mr. Delmolino and Mrs. Currier. The addition of a full time Language Arts faculty member at the Middle School has allowed us to divide the 8th grade into two sections which has been in the best interest of each 8th grade student’s education. The changes have been working out very nicely. We also have three new students at the Middle School this semester, one seventh grader: Yeon Joo Kim and two eighth graders: Rafael Barnoya and Daniela Mariscal. The new teachers and the new students have adapted to the Montverde Academy school community very quickly and very smoothly.
This past week on Wednesday, January 13, we held the Preliminary Round of the School Spelling Bee in the students’ advisory groups. I am proud to announce that:
6th grade Anne Lee Mrs. Betsy Johnson’s advisory group
6th grade Heather Holm Mrs. Lisa Spangler’s advisory group
7th grade Molly Callaghan Mrs. Claudia Amaya’s advisory group
7th grade Carlyn Rosario Ms. Erica Johnson’s advisory group
8th grade Wendy Williams Mr. Eric Pauli’s advisory group
8th grade Evan Taylor Mr. Michael Potempa’s advisory group
will be competing in the final round of the school Spelling Bee for grades 4 through 8 on Wednesday, January 20, at 12 noon in the Fine Arts auditorium. Best wishes to our six finalists in what should prove to be an exciting Final Round.
Three events that you need to put on your school calendar at home are: Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Monday, January 18 - No School, MAIT - January 28, 29, and 30 Roberts Gym (Montverde Academy Invitational Tournament / Boys’ Basketball) and the M. S. Winter Dance Friday, February 5, in the Student Center.
I hope that your Christmas Vacation was an enjoyable period of time that was spent with family and friends. It was a nice break away from school for our students, faculty, and staff. Our school community should now be ready to focus on the academic challenges that are part of the second semester curriculum.
Yours in education,
Warren Delmolino
