Montverde Academy’s Select Choir, “The Singing Eagles”,
performed to a lunch-time crowd at the Jenkins Auditorium on Saturday, March
27. The 16 singers performed a 45 minute concert for the Kiwanis Club of
Clermont at their annual BBQ chicken luncheon. The choir sang a mixture
of pop songs and traditional choral works. The concert featured soloists
Mengfang Li and Sophia Xu and student piano accompanist Jenny Lee. The
choir’s next scheduled performance will be at the annual school spring concert
on May 18 at 7 PM in the Fine Arts Auditorium.

MVA’s Fine Arts Fest was Saturday, March 13. We began
at 9:00 AM with a choral clinic held in the auditorium. Guest clinician
Justin Chase worked with Montverde’s concert and select choirs as well as our
guests the South lake High School Concert Choir. In the chapel,
also starting at 9:00 AM, were a host of activities for the theatrically
inclined including an improve troupe, a master theatre t eacher speaking on
“Defensive Acting”, demonstrations and discussions of stage stunts presented by
Michele Waitmann and MVA students who performed scenes and monologues.
At 12 noon our students were on stage in the auditorium for
an afternoon fine arts concert. This show featured the lower school
choir, select choir, concert choir, combined lower and middle school orchestra,
combined lower and middle school band, up per school symphonic band and theare
students.
Last but not least the
visual arts departments of all three levels had works displayed in the
rehearsal hall, the chapel and the lobby of the auditorium. Art
Club sponsored a “Doodle Banner” outside the Lower School play area along the
fence facing 7th Street and a large canvas for Upper School students
to create a collaborative painting was outside the Upper School art room.

Dear Parents,
We are in the process of ordering concert attire for our May 18 Spring Music Concert. All of the attire necessary is ordered by the music faculty. The students and parents do not need to place the order. The fee for each student is approximately $90 and will be charged against the student’s account. If a student has been in the choir or band in a previous semester they may already own the attire. In this case, they will not receive new attire and as such will not be charged. At the end of the school year, students will own the attire and may take it home. We do recommend that they take good care of it so they can use it again next year.
