Last
evening several members of the track team competed at the regional meet, held
at The First Academy of Orlando. Dyneal Fessal ran a personal best time
of 51.2 in the 400m and finished 5th. Over the course of the season, Dyneal set
personal records in every meet and only missed going to state by a fraction of
a second. Dyneal, Bobby Crago, David Cruz, and Nick Blackwell ran the 4 x
400 meter in a team best of 3:37 and finished 6th. This time was 18
seconds faster than their first relay time of 4 short weeks ago which is a
tremendous feat requiring each team member to cut several seconds off their
personal 400 meter times in a short period of time. Although they won’t be
competing at the state meet next week they represented themselves, their
families, and Academy well and we are very proud of the accomplishments of this
group of young men.
Prior to leaving for the meet the boys took the following photo in front of the
board in the study hall room. Mrs. Bonnie Parks got it started and
throughout the day, students and faculty wrote supportive comments for the team
on the board. This showing of tremendous school spirit meant a lot to the boys
and to the whole team!
Seventh
grade student Ciara Hopkins, also qualified for the regional meet in the 2 mile
but continues to battle a knee injury and was unable to finish her race.
She will be working hard through the summer to rehabilitate her knee and
ready herself for the fall cross country season. We look forward to her return
in August.
Although the season is over, the team should be proud of their many
accomplishments. The seniors will move on but the younger members of the team
are very excited about next year and being able to utilize the new track
complex.

Friday, the track team traveled to Trinity Prep in Winter
Park to compete in the class 1A district meet. I am happy to report that
Dyneal Fessal is the district champion in the 400 meter run! Dyneal will
compete this Thursday at The First Academy of Orlando in the Regional
Meet. Sixteen hopefuls from our region will compete hoping to qualify
(top 4) for the state meet which will be held April 30. The 4 x 400 meter
relay team; Dyneal, Bobby Crago, Nick Blackwell, and David Cruz, placed 3rd
and will advance to the regional meet. This team was first put together
at our invitational, held March 27. They have shown a competitive spirit
cutting their time from a 3:55 to a 3:40, earning them a slot at the regional
meet. Seventh grade student Ciara Hopkins, still battling a knee
issue, placed 4th at districts and she will also compete at the
regional meet.
Several personal bests were achieved Friday night.
Kaya Gaudet set a personal record in both the 100m and 200m. Both Wendi
Williams and Karen Homer set personal records in the 300m intermediate hurdles.
Kelli Keeler ran a personal best in the 800m. In the field events,

Track and Field team members traveled to Trinity Prep in Winter Park for the
annual Saints Invitational Thursday afternoon. Competing against public
high schools such as Apopka and Oviedo in addition to a few teams from their
district, the Eagles distinguished themselves with some impressive performances
and personal records.
Middle school student Jennifer Kabore continues to impress with another
personal record time in the 200m. Wendy Williams, also a middle school
student, achieved a personal record in the 300m hurdles. Alli Keeler
managed to improve her time in the 800m and in the 1600m, placing 6th and 5th
respectively. Shaula Rey set a personal record in her 800m run. In
the field, Tolu Akinpetide placed 5th in discus and 7th in the shot put.
Dyneal Fessal lead the way for the boys setting personal records in both the
400m and 200m races. He placed 4th in the 400m and 7th in the 200m.
Also setting personal records were both Bobby Crago and Alex Synovec in the
200m. Keishin Onodera placed 6th in the 3200m while cutting 15 seconds
off his time. In the field, Keishin placed 5th and Nick Blackwell placed
6th in the high jump while Andrew Matella set personal records in both the
discus and shot put.
Perhaps one of the most exciting events of the evening was the 1600m relay,
where David Cruz, Dyneal Fessal, Bobby Crago, and Nick Blackwell secured 3rd
place, beating Mt. Dora Bible and Trinity Prep while shaving 7 seconds off
their time from last Saturday. This is the second running of the relay,
