Last week, varsity cross country runner and seventh grader Ciara Hopkins was named Lake County Runner of the Year by the Orlando Sentinel.

The Sentinel cited her personal best time of 19:53 at the 1A state meet on November 21, where she took 28th place.

On Friday, October 23, the MVA Cross Country team competed in the Edgewater Invitational at Trotter's Park.

Seventh grader Ciara Hopkins led the girls team with a fourth-place finish in the varsity race, completing the 5k in a personal-record (PR) time of 20:07.

Eight other runners ran personal-record times at Edgewater:

Also representing the girls team were Lyndsay Merbach, Elena Kunz, and Sara Rifai. Also representing the boys was Keishin Onodera.

The team's next contest is the Lake-Sumter County Championships on Thursday, October 29, at Mount Dora Bible. Hot XC at Disney's Cross Country Classic PDF Print E-mail

On Friday, October 9, the MVA Cross Country team traveled to Walt Disney World to run in the Cross Country Classic at Disney’s Wide World of Sports.

It was an unseasonably hot race, with temperatures at race time well into the 90s and high humidity. 

Allison Keeler led the girls team, which also included Tolu Akinpetide, Kelli Keeler, Elena Kunz, Jennifer Lee, Lyndsay Merbach, Sara Rifai, Susan Rifai, and Meg Turner.

Robert Crago led the boys team, followed by Keishin Onodera, Christian Mantilla, Dyneal Fessal, David Velasquez, and Garrett Swanson.

The team is off this week and will travel to Trotters Park in Orlando next week for the Edgewater Invitational on Friday, October 23.
